What Remains

When sun rays shine through the cloudy skies

I see your smile

That beaming smile

The one that radiates warmth and kindness wherever it encounters a lost soul,

shattered dreams, a broken heart.

The touch of your hand on a shoulder, a joke, a laugh

The comforting look in your eyes

 Giving hope to the hopeless

Here in this place my heart breaks with the knowledge

Some souls are not meant to stay

Merely passing through time

You exist to offer this world a moment's grace

To lighten the burden of difficult days and long nights

Making sense of the maddness that is life

Making life out of the maddness

Easily, effortlessly

Suddenly I blink and what once was seems lost

But every now and then the universe blinks a bit too long

And when it does I can see what remains in the space in between

What remains is you

Forever young, always beautiful,

You.

Bat Shea

You did not go away that day

For thousands came to weep and pray

They carried you in hearts and minds

And came to see you one last time

Their faith in you held strong and true

While greiving masses formed and  grew

They stood outside the church and mourned

Then waded through the growing storm

They would not leave you all alone

To go to your eternal home

They marched along the weary road

They bowed their heads

They knelt in snow

Flowers echoed sentiments

Of your innocence and guiltlessness

Your last breath was a sacrifice

An unfair trade for broken lives

Your soul now rests in calm repose

Where lonely lies a crimson rose

You did not go away that day

We mourn you still, Bartholomew Shea

One Last Kiss

The promise of an afternoon

A carefree day in sun soaked June

This was an ordinary day

Where tall grass grows and branches sway

Where water ripples all around

The scent of earth, the untouched ground

The blue sky sparkles endlessly

My time with you was not to be

The tide rushed in so dark and swift

I failed to give you one last kiss

The Angels hovered ever near

To comfort me and dry my tears

They wrapped their wings around you both

Then pulled you in and held you close

They lifted you into the sky

Where you grew wings and learned to fly

Beyond the city, high above

Where days are filled with peace and love

My heart shall ache forevermore

As I blow you kisses from the shore

Great Love

The frosty air hangs quiet and still all around me
I can feel the heaviness of my thoughts
It's almost as though I can touch them
In a moment of emptiness my heart aches for what has been and what will not be
Ever again
I can see the dreams of tomorrow and they are so close I can smell their sweet scent
They taunt me and whisper to me
They call to me and I want to follow
I want to run wild and free without care
I want to be in that bright sunlit field of promise and joy
But I cannot chase or follow
I must turn away and bravely walk into this peacefulness of silence
There I will find all that is right within my heart
I feel a tear forming in the corner of my eye
I let it roll down my cheek
For it must escape and leave it's trace so I will know that once there was great love
And great love can never be lost
It may scatter to the corners of my mind and grow cobwebs
Though someday when all is right with the world once more
Someone, perhaps I, will brush them off and find myself again.

Spring

Spring is here my courageous one You'll get to bask in the setting sun With skies of blue and fields of green  The likes of which you...
