Your Smiling Face

A piece of my heart broke today

The news came quietly

In my grief and confusion I refused to open the door for acceptance

Yet I held it wide open for sorrow, denial and regret to enter

I pulled up a chair and sat down with sadness

Memories flooded my consciousness like waves

crashing into the pristine beaches of my childhood

Wisdom whipsered and reminded me that although time flows forward

I can always turn to look back over my shoulder and see your smiling face,

hear your laughter and recall the times we shared

Now you radiate with the warmth of the sun

And shine among the stars at night

Your joy and light are a presence that remains

Your spirit lingers ever close to those who love you

As you sprinkle your magic into the universe

I am thankful for the gift of you

I am forever grateful for the part you have played in the story of my life

Your grace, goodness and beauty will always be.

Already Home

Another year has passed

Still I wait

Through the silence of the night and the calm of day

Shadows come and go

Seasons change, yet you remain the same

Untouched in my memory, safe within my heart

I close my eyes and remember

I whisper into the wind

I plead with you to come home

The day is perfect and the sunlit sky tells me what my ears don't wish to hear

But my heart knows

You are already home.
